In this day and age this phrase is held firmly, where human beings claim and possess all legal rights, while animals or nonhumans are credited no legal rights. For many years the controversial debate about the ethics of the moral status and considerateness of nonhuman animals has been a common one between philosophers. Non-profit organization, Nonhuman Rights Project, have taken action and been working through the common law to help nonhuman animals gain legal rights. Most recently, arguing that if habeas corpus can be applied to corporations, then why not to chimpanzees under possession, medical experimentation. 2 Rights Rights are the legal, moral and ethical principles that safeguards ones interests and allows freedom.
